In Alabama, the Republican-controlled state legislature redrew the 2nd Congressional District following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to weaken the Voting Rights Act.

This district was one of only two in the state represented by a Democrat, Shomari Figures, who anticipated being targeted by the new map.

The redistricting aimed to make the district more favorable to Republicans, but Figures remains determined to contest the seat.

The changes reflect ongoing political battles over voting rights and representation in Alabama.
